WHO WE ARE:

The Blairs Volunteer Fire Department was the result of a meeting of community leaders, led by Roy N. Ford and Marshall Kendall, who recognized the need for fire protection in the Blairs area. At the time, Ringgold and Mount Hermon Volunteer Fire Departments were sharing the responsibility of providing service to Blairs. In order to bring the community together and gain support, it was decided to form the Blairs Ruritan Club. The Ruritan Club was chartered on September 6, 1976 with 43 members. Marshall Kendall and Roy N. Ford negotiated the purchase of the old Sonny Pierce ESSO station located near Blairs Baptist Church from Johnny Connors. Jessie Yeaman was the first Chief and Bob Anderson of Danville Fire Department trained the new members to meet the Virginia Fire Service requirement for firefighters. The Blairs Ruritan Club purchased the building for the fire department, and it was remodeled to have a meeting/training room and bays for trucks and equipment.
